INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Internet retailer Amazon.com Inc has announced plans to enable its customers to purchase sections of books for viewing online. The new service is to be called Amazon Pages.

In addition the retailer has also revealed plans for an additional programme, Amazon Upgrade, which will provide users who purchase a traditional book with full online access to the text.

According to The Associated Press, Amazon has said that its Amazon Pages service is likely to cost approximately a few cents per page and users purchasing a paper book under the Amazon Upgrade service could also look at the entire text online for a small additional charge.

Copyright holders would apparently make the decision as to whether the pages could be printed or downloaded.

Amazon expects to launch both new services in 2006.
